Whereas the importance of traditional sailboats in the Caribbean has been relegated as a means of transport between the islands, recreational sailing continues to flourish, particularly in dinghies. Conditions are ideal. Not only does the region benefit from year-round average temperatures in the low-to-mid 80s Fahrenheit, but the trade winds bring a steady 15- to 25-knot breeze throughout the year. The Caribbean islands nurture some fascinating local dinghy sailing, host some of the most attractive regattas, and are home to a significantly high proportion of dinghy sailing stars.
